Streaming Schedules

Streaming media is typically broadcast media that make content available via the Internet. COMPASS has provisions for creating schedules for such media which are referred to here as streaming schedules.

In order to create such a schedule for content from a traditional AM, FM, or TV station, a separate instance of the media must be created via the Media Manager. The media type, if not already created via the Manage Media Types window, should be Streaming. The Order Grid Optional Column should be set to Gross impressions (IMP).

Changes from COMPASS's "normal" schedule include:

The Cost column has changed to Cost/M (cost per thousand). The amount entered here will interact with the following column.

The column Imp/M Cap (thousands of impressions/cap) determines the target impressions for the schedule. In the example above, the target is to generate 12,500 impressions per week.

Because of the nature of streaming schedules, it is not possible to determine in advance how many ads will be required to reach the target impressions. If an ad is streamed once to 12,500 listeners, the target impressions has been reached. If each ad reaches only 125 listeners, it will require 100 ads per week to achieve the goal.

For these reasons, question marks are shown in place of ad numbers in the days of the week and in the Total column for total number of ads. The Gross column is calculated by multiplying the cost per thousand by the number of thousand impressions in the goal. In the example above, this is $15.00 X 12.5 which equals $187.50.

The reason there is a question mark following the $187.50 is that the final weekly cost will not be determined until after the week is completed. The actual number of impressions could be less — perhaps far less — than estimated, which would cause the actual Gross to be reduced accordingly.

Conversely, it is possible the streaming schedule will over deliver impressions. In that case, the 12,500 figure serves as a cap on the Gross. Any impressions in excess of the cap will not alter the Gross.

To indicate no cap on the schedule, enter a zero in the Imp/M Cap column. Doing so will replace the Gross for that line with all question marks. The actual amount of the Gross will only be determined after the week has completed.
